Scleral Fixation Simulation Course

Hands-on surgical simulation course focused on scleral fixation techniques.

Designed to support the development of surgical control through a structured, stepwise simulation approach in a controlled wet-lab environment.

Activities focus on surgical planning, instrument handling, and microsurgical coordination.

Participants engage in both sutured and sutureless (Yamane) scleral fixation techniques through repeated hands-on practice.

Course Aims

This course provides participants the opportunity to engage with intraocular lens scleral fixation techniques in a controlled simulation setting. By the end of the course, participants will have:

  • Examined surgical planning considerations and case approach across multiple scleral fixation techniques in a simulated setting.
  • Practiced flanged intrascleral fixation (Yamane technique) in a controlled wet-lab setting.
  • Practiced sutured scleral fixation of an intraocular lens on ex vivo tissue.
  • Worked through intrascleral haptic fixation under a scleral flap on simulated material.
  • Explored microsurgical instrument coordination and the step-by-step procedural workflow within a controlled simulation timeframe.
